So, my time has been hijacked by Pizzaman once more and it isn’t over yet. I’ve literally been spending every spare moment either writing content or arranging the formats of the mailer system for the last crack of the whip at getting people to view the internet series. It feels a little like I’m ramming it down their throat but it’s the only way I know at this point to get a larger audience for Pizzaman. I’d always wanted it to hit computers with a whirlwind. “Three hundred and fifty thousand hits”, I said, “the population of Cardiff as its demographic”, yet I found very quickly, even before the series came out that people are in-capable, unwilling or un-adjusted to being ‘on the ball’ to any amount of scale. In order to get people clicking open on anything is hard.
I feel people’s imaginations are so quick now that its almost come to a set of flashing images with incredible visuals that will even stand a chance of getting any where near the amount of attention something deserves. The amount of time and effort it takes to actually make a film off your own back for it then to be put onto the internet is at this point in time, 2010 I mean, almost an oxymoron. There are no systems where DVD box sets have given way to a permanent pay per view/ownership of a TV series on your internet/TV digi-box. Trust me it’s coming. There will be no DVD within thirty years. There’ll be no CDs, there’ll be no downloading issues on to MP3 players, it will all go internet. You will have your own internet account for entertainment set up for you from birth. It will be the place that your phone, TV, music, business, financial accounts and communications are stored. All the information stored for you. There will be a new high-tech digital age where computer/personal information/personal account hacking takes on a whole new meaning. It will be far more dangerous to be a computer whiz than it will to mug an old lady. Truth is the old ladies will not be going outside by then, they’ll be hooked into their internet account. However much a fiction The Matrix is, there are very similar things going on. I don’t think there will be a birth of A.I. but I do think there will be a birth of super-integrated algorithms that will track everything. With the right set of numbers or sequences of code, you’ll be able to find out and even see everything.
Things that scare me as possibilities are people with their own camera attachments on their clothes. The police are already doing a lot of this although we see a lot of it in crap TV shows. What if every man woman and child wore a camera that was constantly streaming into their internet account? What if terrorism or public disorder laws were brought in to over see these and people were given the power to arrest people on the strength of this streaming? What if they were brought in to monitor what people said as well? Yes there is the obvious big brother reference but where will the humanity be? Where will the human conscience take itself over the next 30 or 40 years? What will it be like if there are countries with this technology but other still without? Will they not become safe havens and the super powers of the planet due to the influx of the all-seeing eye? Will there be very harsh laws against such powers ever being granted? Is there someone with a mind to know where it could all go if we get a leader who’s been bullied all his life, hell bent on screwing people over with no regard for anyone but himself? I can’t believe there are so many variables here. I know this has happened many times over and billions of people have died because of these people but how big can this power base get? How many could it affect in the future and will we ever be able to get off the net, off the grid, or hide from these things? Is there anywhere safe from the future?
It’s funny where I go after a morning of good coffee and sending out e-mails. I love the writing, the conjecture, the flowing of thought from my fingers into the pixels you and I see here. The most positive thing so far has been the twenty-nine more views of Pizzaman’s episode 1, and four more views of episode two. I’ve only just sent out the second mailer and will get the updated stats tomorrow. I worked so hard. Still the formatting is not right for PCs but my iPhone finds it easy to handle. The PC gives enormous line spaces and my online blog goes a little mad. I guess by episode 8 people will be sick of them. By episode 12 they’ll give in and watch it all just so they can feel justified to unsubscribe from the mailer. I’m paying money for it that I don’t have and could actually do without it in my life right now. I’m earning peanuts although its probably more money than I’ve had in a while over the time period of sustained employment. The other jobs were shorter by a considerable margin and I’ve only been selling tickets for 9 weeks now. Anyway, on to the mailer once more my friends.
