Welcome to the second Episode of Pizzaman. Will Taj be ok? Was the car written off? What will the boss say? What will Becky his girlfriend think? Will she still be his girlfriend? One quick way to find out… (Click The Logo For Episode 2) The incident was filmed on Pierhead Street a few hundred yards from the Senedd building and round the corner from the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay. It took from 9pm until 2am to get everything needed. Even the police took an interest in Pizzaman stopping on the other side of the road to watch filming. It was empty, it was dark, we didn’t have lighting but everyone pitched in. Funnily enough the drunk guy has appeared in Skins and Shameless and even runs the Pontcanna Flea Market. The bottle of vodka he has was full at the beginning of the shoot too. The scene itself was drawn from a real life experience. Five years before the filming, whilst working for Dominos as a delivery driver, James Robson (Director) had in fact crashed into a female Welsh Assembly Minister. He was shaken and she’d hurt her neck. Armed with this material Teilo was inspired to create what is now known as Pizzaman. Funnily enough James also had an insurance excess to pay back but the similarities end there. His car was written off and took a few weeks to repair and the assembly minister turned out fine, but did still make a claim. The scene with the boss that follows the incident was not only one of the few scenes that wasn’t written by James but came from a transcription of the actor’s audition. Actually the whole characterisation of Nick the boss was as a result of Kevin Welch’s talents in the audition room. He'd been asked to improvise the scene where he manipulates Taj. It was spell binding. James and Teilo got him to do it three or four times. James recalls, "I remember watching it back and thinking it was a little harsh of us to expect him to do it so many times but the words were unforgettable." When it came to scripting the scene he literally played the recording over and over writing down, word for word what Kevin was saying. Those words are what you hear in this episode and they influenced every decision made when writing the rest of the boss scenes. Sadly this is one of those scenes that was considerably cut down to make the episode faster but still one we love to watch over and over again because as we love to hate Nick the Boss. I hope you do too.
